The Guernsey Oddfellows
A bespoke system for a local friendly society

The Problem
After many years of use, the Oddfellows Committee of Management identified that the technology underlying their existing membership system was nearing end-of-support.
Given the highly bespoke nature of the existing system and the decades of work that had gone into creating a system that exactly matched their office processes, sourcing a replacement involved some challenges. No off-the-shelf solution existed and creating a replacement from scratch could be expensive and resource intensive, with a long learning curve for staff after the switchover.
A highly bespoke and capable legacy system nearing end-of-support.
The Solution
After being appointed, Submarine embarked on a ring-fenced initial discovery and consultation process resulting in a full agreed business requirements document.
The subsequent build process was agile, consultative and allowed for structured feedback to be incorporated as early as possible, ensuring a good match with existing procedures and staff requirements.
The resulting product was launched successfully, less than a year from the initial appointment and, with the continued support of Submarine is still evolving to meet the demands of the healthcare landscape in Guernsey.
Featuring full member, claims and plan management, reporting tools, automated bank reconciliations, tailored monthly and annual business processes and data clean-up tools, the resulting application should continue to support the Oddfellows for many years.
An agile, responsive consultation and build process resulting in an appropriate, modern cloud-based application.
