Guernsey Coastguard

SARLog - an emergency incident logging and management system

The Problem

To prepare for the relocation of Guernsey Coastguard from the Joint Emergency Services Control Centre (JESCC) to the Signal Station at St Peter Port Harbour, the Coastguard required a completely new emergency logging system in just a few months.

What was needed was a lightweight, tailored application to log and manage incoming emergency calls and track incidents as they developed - from simple accidents to full multi-faceted search and rescue scenarios. While off-the-shelf solutions existed, they were mostly over-specified and out of budget and would have potentially entailed months of training to get key staff ready to switch over.

A fast turnaround to create a high-availability, easy-to-use emergency system from scratch.

The Solution

From the initial contact, Submarine conducted a short discovery and consultation process to identify a minimum viable specification.

From there, and incorporating a few nice-to-have additions, Submarine created a lightweight but powerful application which is designed to be used across multiple device types and which can service solo operators or whole teams of users simultaneously, depending on the severity and nature of the incident.

Designed to work with existing workflows without imposing additional workload and with almost zero training requirements, the application has streamlined the delivery of critical assistance to those in danger in our local waters.

Private-cloud-hosted for maximum availability, it makes use of industry standard security and full-duplex real time data transfer to ensure total reliability during times of high usage. And, of course, it is monitored 24/7, fully backed up and constantly patched with server updates.

An intuitive, highly-tailored application delivering exactly what is needed, without bloat or confusing user interfaces.
